CURE’s Open Arms at Lunch

CURE Childhood Cancer is excited to announce a new initiative called Open Arms at Lunch.  Built upon our Thursday evening Open Arms dinners, Open Arms at Lunch will give companies and groups an opportunity to serve a meal to patients, families, and caregivers in the hospital.  Our Open Arms dinners have been a staple at both Scottish Rite and Egleston hospitals for decades.  The dedicated Open Arms volunteers bring a sense of home each week to the patients and their families when they serve meals in the Family Rooms on the inpatient cancer units of the children’s hospitals.  While our volunteer spots for nightly Open Arms dinners are often full, we have heard a great interest from groups who want the hands-on experience of giving.   This inspired us to expand our Open Arms outreach to patients and families by adding a monthly lunch at both hospitals.

These lunches will occur on Wednesdays, with set up beginning at 11:30 am and lunch lasting no longer than 12:45 pm.  Up to 8 volunteers could participate from a group, with 4 volunteering at each hospital.  Two of the volunteers will help with food pick-up and delivery to the hospitals.  Please let us know if your group wishes to sponsor the cost or a portion of the cost of the meal, roughly $500 to feed 100 people at the two hospitals.  The dates for 2009 at both Egleston and Scottish Rite hospitals are:

October 21st

November 18th

December 9th

If your company or organization is interested in doing an Open Arms at Lunch, please email Meri Long, Director of Patient and Family Services, at meri@curechildhoodcancer.org.
