Hayley Hunter’s Story:
Hayley Hunter is the 9 year old daughter of Eddie and Tammy Hunter of Ball Ground, Georgia. In April 2008, she began having unexplained fevers and leg cramps. After several visits to the pediatrician she was sent to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for an ultrasound for what was believed to be an enlarged spleen. The ultrasound revealed a mass. After more tests and a biopsy, Hayley was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer. Over the past year and a half, Hayley has had surgery, six cycles of chemotherapy, an autologous stem cell transplant, twelve rounds of radiation and 6 rounds of cis-retinoic acid. Hayley recently completed her treatment and had her end of treatment scans showing that she is free of cancer. She was able to start her 4th grade year at Macedonia Elementary in Cherokee County free of cancer and will soon begin dance lessons. She is also looking forward to playing basketball in the winter.
While we celebrate the success of her treatment, we know that the current treatments for neuroblastoma do not guarantee that Hayley is cured. Hayley is still at risk for relapse and is at risk for secondary cancers like leukemia and thyroid cancer, as well as infertility, scoliosis and other significant side effects.
Hayley has an older sister, Hannah, and a younger brother, Ewing, who provided her constant support during her treatment.

About CURE Childhood Cancer:
Founded in 1975, CURE Childhood Cancer is dedicated to conquering childhood cancer through research, education and support of patients and their families. Since its establishment as a grass-roots organization, CURE has focused its efforts on improving the care, quality of life, and survival rate of children with cancer.
The founders, parents and a dedicated pediatric oncologist, joined forces to support laboratory research that would translate into immediate care for children with cancer.
Since that time, CURE has raised millions of dollars to fund cutting edge research at the Aflac Cancer Center Blood Disorders Service at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University School of Medicine.
Through innovative programming, CURE also provides support for stricken families, providing them comfort and support during their time of devastating need.
