Jay Eichelberger opened the night at The Punchline in Sandy Springs with the line: “I am not a comedian; I am just a kid who survived cancer.” Over 200 people attended Comedy for CURE on August 24. The event included 4 comedians, a raffle, and a live auction. Close to $13,000 was raised to benefit CURE Childhood Cancer.
Jay had acute lymphocytic leukemia as a child. He was diagnosed at the age of 4 and is now 18 years old. He has been off chemotherapy for over 10 years. Jay is a senior at Marist School in Atlanta. Jay was the face on the cover of the CURE brochures in the mid 1990s. Jay planned the event to give back to the organization that helped him and his family (and continues helping so many other children and their families). Jay picked a comedy event because as he told the crowd “Laughter is often the best medicine.”
